I actually bought this piece of cherry and made the 9-inch bowl for my aunt and uncle who are really responsible for my obsession for woodworking. If not for them, this might have remained a simple hobby - something to occupy my free time.
This was one of my first "stave" projects. It contains eight pieces of very curly oak on a curly oak base. It's about 8 inches across and 3 inches deep.
Another 8-inch bowl. The wood for this bowl comes from the same board as the Curly Oak bowl above, but I was getting a little more confident and slipped in some purpleheart for color.
I aquired some beech - actually lots of beech - at an auction, so I was trying to fnd uses for it. This little bowl, about 4-inch diameter by 3 inches high seemed like a good use. The beech really turns and takes a finish well.
